Welcome To My Home Page

Ahhhhh Where to begin? Many are curious about my injury, so I will start there.
How little did I know about any form of spinal cord injury..until June 29,2000.

Mine, is an unusual story I have learned. But true how ever bizzar. I had a complete hysterecomy the week before. IN hindsite, there were prior presented problems with the incision site, but I was oblivious to the norm.

The day before injury, the staples were removed from the incision. That night, I was awakened by the blood that had oozed from the wound.
The next morning, I called the doctors office and she told me to come into the office so she could clean the wound. As she cleaned the wound, she pulled on it, and the incision opened up just like a ziploc bag. Hip to Hip. Wound dehesion I learned later. vThe doctor paniced, and left me there ALONE to go call a wound care specialist. I did not know what was happening, but knew something was wrong. I sat up on the gyno bed, in an effort to get help.

I lost conscieness, and fell, hitting my head on the counter on the way down. Breaking my neck, c2-c7.
I lost and regained consciness at least 5 times in an effort to scramble to the hallway to be found.
IN aprx. 45 minutes I was found, laying like that in the hallway, unconscience.

From that point the story gets more bazzar. But you get the idea.

After all was said and done, I was left a walking quad.
Quite rare, but truly blessed. God, saved me that day, I have no doubt.
It was later learned I had gone into extreme shock, which caused my losing conscieness. I was told that alone could have killed me.
The break to my neck has killed many others. My surgeons have told me many times over, there is no medical reason for me not to be vent dependent. SO I truly count my blessings.
I can stand and walk for short periods of time. I have arm and hand function..for the high function I have I am truly grateful.

This experience has renewed my zest for life.
I have seen death, and choose to live life to it's fullest with what I have now.
